Program Description:

This video program is designed for RNs who have little or no experience working in a post-anesthesia care unit. This was originally presented as a “live” videoconference program in July, 2000. The content, however, was recently reviewed in 2007. It was deemed that the information presented is current and relevant to practice.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this module, each participant will be able to:

State assessment priorities during Phase I of post-anesthesia care.
Identify emergency medications that can be administered through the endotracheal tube.
Discuss possible causes of airway problems for the post-anesthesia patient.
Describe two types of intubations and the rationale for their use.
Name at least three types of patients that may be at risk for aspiration.
Identify at least 3 important interventions in crisis management.

Continuing Education credit:

Approved by the BRN for 2.25 contact hours. Provider number 14147.
