Marilyn Chow Addresses AAMI 2008
"A nurse is not an interface," says Marilyn Chow, Vice President, National Patient Care Services.
Traditionally, "Technological products and processes have not incorporated nurses' viewpoints ." continued Chow, in her presentation at AAMI 2008, the national conference of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, in San Jose.
Clinical technology designs that incorporate input from caregivers will result in improved patient care and aid in nurse retention, especially important in this era of critical nursing shortages. Such technology devices would be "intuitive, error-free, and part of interoperable systems," and designed around the needs of patients and their caregivers
Technology and hospital design organized around patient needs will "transform the hospital-patient care environment and improve the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care."
