Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Chief Nursing Officer receives "Contributions as a Humanitarian" Award from the ACNL
The "Contributions as a Humanitarian" Award is awarded to an ACNL nurse leader who has made significant contributions to the promotion of human welfare; improvement of health services for those in need; and advancement of humanitarian efforts through research, service and/or education.
Peggy Diller has journeyed to faraway lands, sharing her nursing knowledge, compassion and caring spirit with those in need.
Peggy has been a full time nurse executive for decades. During time off from her day job, she traveled to countries including China, Russia, and Africa with her church of AONE. During these trips, she has shared better ways of delivering care, often offering direct hands-on care and support.
Most recently Peggy went to Africa where she visited rural clinics and worked with people in need. Using the "train the trainer" model, Peggy's goal was to teach and empower local women and the few nurses she came in contact with, about boiling water, preparing foods safely and caring for people of their communities. Peggy traveled to a church in Kenya where she provided education about malaria, typhoid and AIDS. She even brought along mosquito netting to demonstrate effective positioning over beds.
Peggy not only self-funded much of her clinic missionary work, but also came back to the US and told her stories to others. She shared her adventures and learnings at ACNL Board meetings and recently co-presented her great work to the California Nursing Students Association. Through this sharing, she role models and cultivates more humanitarian thinking among nurses.
A staunch supporter of ACNL for many years, Peggy has served the organization in numerous roles. She is a past president and has served on the Board of Directors and multiple committees.
Peggy is an exceptional nurse, leader and spiritually-connected woman. Her gift of outreach is extraordinary, and she does this important work with great humility and steadfastness.
