Infection Contro

Our infection control program is dedicated to the prevention of health-care-acquired infections in both our inpatient and outpatient arenas. In every medical center and medical office building nationwide, a team of professionals staff Kaiser Permanente's infection control services.

The infection control program employs the newest products and technologies, and ensures that the most up-to-date and evidenced-based infection prevention interventions are reflected in our facility-level patient care provider policies. We also make sure that employees and health care staff receive information and training around these interventions and products .

To help guide the practice of infection control, we also provide to our nurses and other employees a compendium of products including:

  • Inpatient and outpatient infection control policy manuals

  • Vascular access device insertion and care guidelines

  • Endoscopy reprocessing competency program

  • Collection of monthly newsletters

  • Educational tools, including ready-to-use slide sets

  • Links to other related sites for other externally published guidelines, including relevant CDC guidelines

Further supporting this program, and ensuring standardization throughout the organization, is an interregional peer group of i nfection c ontrol professionals who meet on a regular basis to network and share information. These groups liaison with other manager and peer groups to share best practices and collaborate in problem solving and issue resolution. Every quarter, these regional peer groups convene via national videoconference to further collaborate and communicate throughout the organization.
