Noelle Leca

Noelle studied the Intravenous TKO (to keep open) rate between peripheral IV's running at 10ml / hr and 30ml / hr. The outcome has resulted in our hospital standard for peripheral IV TKO rates to be changed from 30ml /hr to 10 ml / hr. Several years ago the TKO rate for PICC lines was changed from 10 to 30 ml / hr because occlusion of PICC lines were becoming common. With the change of PICC TKO's, peripheral IV TKO were changed as well. Noelle's focus was to return the TKO rate of peripheral IV's back to their original TKO of 10 ml/hr so as not to fluid overload patients and minimize cost waste of IV fluids with unnecessary infusions.
