Mission
The Nursing Education Committee assists in directing the educational needs of clinical staff, specifically related to the acquisition of nursing knowledge, training and competency.
Serving as preceptors and mentors, the Committee members address program-wide patient care and nursing-related issues by sharing knowledge, and demonstrating and teaching skills necessary for the optimal care of our members.
Objectives
The Committee will:

Provide a forum for supporting, training and expanding the preceptor role.

Identify and plan educational programs following learning needs assessments
Membership
The Nursing Education Committee consists of department-based nursing preceptors chosen by nursing leaders. Members include the following:

Practice Lead, Nursing Education and Competency (Committee chairperson*)

Ambulatory Infusion Center

Behavioral Health

ED/CDU

Home Health Care

Medical Specialties

Primary Care

Surgical Specialties
* The Director, Nurse Practice or the Practice Lead, Nursing Quality & Systems Management will serve as the alternate for the Practice Lead, Nursing Education & Competency.
Member responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Regular attendance at scheduled quarterly meetings

Active involvement in Committee work, which includes:
-
Participating in nursing orientation

Validating nursing competency
-
Training associated with new practices, procedures and equipment

Identifying learning needs of the clinical staff
Membership term
Each Committee member serves for the duration of his/her tenure as a preceptor. Request for replacement comes from the individual member or from regional nursing leadership.
Reporting Relationships
The Committee members remain accountable to their managers or team leads for their daily work responsibilities, but members are accountable to the Practice Lead, Nursing Education & Competency for deliverables associated with the Committee's work.
Committee Meetings
The Committee meets quarterly for one and a half-to-two hour sessions. The Practice Lead, Nursing Education & Competency sets the dates and times of the meetings, and notifies managers, team leads and Committee members of the annual schedule.
